The cute little house just off Macleod Tr. is easy to miss if you don’t know where you’re looking. Fortunately, Canela’s vegan pastry offerings make it a destination for sweet seekers across the city. Mexican expat Veronica Amaya named her business for the Spanish word for cinnamon and has grown the venture from making cinnamon buns in her daughter’s kitchen to her full-fledged (cutest-ever) bakery. The cinnamon buns that started it all are excellent. The vegan dough recipe makes for a chewier mouth-feel that was so satisfying paired with delicious filling and frosting. We also tried the house-made pop tart which was enormous and much tastier than the original.
