Lunch Packing Event at CORE Shopping Centre Supports Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids

During the month of May, the CORE Shopping Centre  www.coreshopping.ca (324 8th Avenue SW – second level glass bridge), Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids (BB4CK) and ARC Resources Ltd. have partnered to raise awareness about the thousands of Calgary children who live in households experiencing food insecurity.

On the morning of Wednesday, May 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., a volunteer-led lunch-packing event will take place in the CORE encouraging individuals to celebrate Brown Bag It Day by donating the equivalent of their lunch expenses in support of the cause.

The CORE Shopping Centre welcomes guests to learn about BB4CK through an interactive pop-up display, by participating in various activities and donating non-perishable snack items to the cause. Throughout the month, donations made to BB4CK will be matched by long-time BB4CK partner, ARC Resources Ltd., up to a total value of $50,000.00. Additionally, when shoppers present CORE food court receipts totalling $20.00 or more to Guest Services, the CORE will donate $1.00 to BB4CK (up to $1,000.00) and shoppers will receive a $5.00 CORE gift card (while supplies last). The month-long display marks the third campaign surrounding Brown Bagging It Day, held yearly on May 25.

On May 22, Cactus Club Cafe and Hy’s Steakhouse & Cocktail Bar will prepare 500 sandwiches, which will later be packed into brown lunch bags by volunteers from ARC Resources Ltd. at the display in the CORE, along with snacks donated by DAY1DADS. The fresh lunches will then be delivered to a BB4CK partner school close to the shopping centre.
