SUMMARY:Roaming the Rhone with Geoff
DESCRIPTION:France’s Rhone Valley is 250 km from north to south\, with the town of Montélimar serving as a general dividing point. The interesting thing is that there can sometimes be dramatic climatic variations between the north and the south\, as well as distinctions in soils and other aspects of terroir. The dividing line is likely based on these distinctions rather than political boundaries. In the north\, syrah is king\, and is the only permitted grape for the red wines (apart from an allowance for a small amount of viognier)\, whereas the south allows for a myriad of grapes\, 13 for Chateauneuf-Du-Pape\, for example. In this event\, we will taste some great examples from the two halves\, from the stunning Syrahs of the north to sumptuous Chateauneuf-Du-Papes in the south.
