SAIT continues to create global connections with industry experts by way of culinary diplomacy

From June 2 – 8, the School of Hospitality and Tourism at SAIT will host a multi-day Canada-Mexico Chef Ambassador visit. The week will consist of several activities showcasing the culture and cuisine of Calgary, Alberta and Canada. This will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students to work hands-on and side-by-side with Master Chef competitor Irving Quiroz and Michelin Star recipient Rodrigo Rivera-Rio, both from Monterrey, Mexico.

The initiative focuses on culinary diplomacy, the multidisciplinary art of using food and hospitality to build relationships. Since January 2022, Culinary Diplomacy and Anthropology has been taught to Culinary Arts and Baking and Pastry Arts Students. There is no greater common thread among world cultures than food and hospitality, with the power to create friendships and equalize all who take part.

The week will close with Que Rica Comida. Join us on June 7 at the Highwood Kitchen + Bar for a contemporary Mexican dining experience featuring seasonal locally sourced ingredients from Alberta’s bountiful backyard. Prepared by chefs Quiroz and Rivera-Rio, alongside students from the SAIT School of Hospitality and Tourism, this unique collaboration will highlight techniques from Monterrey, Mexico.
