Hidden Gem: Thai Siam
Thai Siam has been drawing crowds and online attention since opening in September 2022. It took only six months to outgrow the small space with daily wait lists. When the lease expired in July 2023, finding the right space provided a major hurdle for business and life partners Sawanya Clarke and Tiago Sousa – until a conversation with Mike Stanfield, owner of Starr Distilling Co.. Cooking is a family affair for Sawanya and her creative process is deeply rooted in her heritage. Both her grandmother and mother were chefs for the Thai government, preparing meals for teachers and students. Inspired by her family’s culinary legacy and her mother’s successful Thai restaurant, Sawanya pursued formal training at the Culinary Art School in Bangkok. Tiago had always wanted to open an eatery and meeting Sawanya helped solidify their mutual goals. Each dish goes through an intense quality control process of creating, tasting and tweaking until it finally passes. All the dishes are memorable, and during a recent visit we wished we had worn our stretchy pants as we couldn’t stop eating the Pad Thai with chicken, green curry, Khao Soy and Thai Crunchy Fish topped with spicy chili. The team plans to reopen on September 11, after a much-needed rest and is hoping to move to a reservation-only system to ensure they no longer have to turn people away. We’ll be there when they reopen to try more of their authentic Thai food and handcrafted cocktails from the distillery.
