About Shiki Menya

10 years ago, we opened Shiki Menya in Bridgeland with a small team serving up 150 bowls of fresh house made ramen in Calgary. 4 years ago, we moved across the street to a bigger location with the addition of our Japanese snack bar @ firstavenuecornerstore .

The vision for our shop was to recreate the feelings of what it’s like to walk into a ramen shop in Japan but with our own flare and twist. A small hole in the wall vibe, loud environment with bustling customers and a small team of workers hustling bowl after bowl. The careful attention to detail of each bowl and flavour profiles, not compromising on quality ingredients, or the process of creating each bowl. Taking all these feelings into consideration, Shiki Menya was born.

10 years later, we still stay true to our original concept which is to deliver quality over quantity. Our Tonkotsu broth still takes over 20 hours to prepare daily. Our noodles are made in house for maximum freshness and to match each bowl accordingly.

Although over the years our personal tastes and preferences have changed, the ramen scene has also changed and evolved. With these changes, we’ve always tweaked our methods of ramen making. We’ve adjusted flavours and noodle types to make the best possible bowl each time. Ramen is always evolving and we will continue to evolve with it, push the scene forward and to contribute to the culture and I hope y’all will be there to enjoy the ride.

Thanks everyone who has messed with us over the years, who stood in line through the cold and the heat, to those who pulled up week after week, to those who try every bowl like a real ramen head, to everyone who has stepped through the doors new and old. And of course, all the amazing staff who have been a part of the Menya family.
