It seems almost unfathomable but just a week after Stephen and Jo Lowden suffered flooding in their home and were forced to move, their downtown pub (The Pig and Duke) suffered the same fate. Right in the midst of Calgary’s cold snap a high-pressure pipe in the residences above burst, raining down water through the ceiling of their pub.
As they scrambled to move all of the perishables to their other location in the Beltline the opened the doors to find a pipe had also burst in that building. With the ceiling caved in and 45 minutes of water reining down the Pig and Duke family was left with nothing.
Of course, Insurance covers the damage and workers are feverishly drying out and rebuilding the locations. What’s NOT covered are the instantly affected lives of their 65 incredible staff members who also call Pig and Duke their family. These staff are all out of work for the time being and businesses like the pig and duke cannot even fathom the thought of losing their staff.
Most folks in Calgary don’t have big savings accounts to get them through times like this so it’s time for us Calgarians to come together and show this staple of our city what we Calgarians are world-famous for!!
It’s time to throw an event to raise money 100% in support of getting the amazing pig and duke staff through this time.
Our great friends at Township Bar and Grill have graciously donated their location. Breweries and local businesses alike are compiling MOUNTAINS of great prizes for the silent auction including BEER A YEAR and WINE FOR A YEAR.
Shane Volk of “One Bad Son” fame will be performing an acoustic set.
There will be DJ’s!! There will be great Food!! There will be great beverages!!
Affected, out of work pig and duke staff will be onsite and 100% of proceeds raised will go directly to them!
