100 Proof is an exciting new lineup from Signatory Vintage, which marries high ABV with great value… And is it a coincidence that they are almost all matured exclusively in fresh sherry?

Unlike the US, where spirit proof is calculated by simply doubling the alcohol, in the UK 100 Proof works out to approximately 57% abv. In the old days, to check if a spirit had been “watered down”, gunpowder was added to it, and if it exploded when lit the spirit was proved to be pure… if not it was considered under proof.

We will sample seven 100 Proof (57%) bottlings, including two Exceptional Cask 100 Proof releases, including whiskies from the likes of Aultmore, Auchroisk, Mannochmore, Macduff, Miltonduff and Highland Park – whoops! – that should read “A Secret Orkney”.
