Bitter Sisters Brewing

Founded by sisters Tracy and Jill Johnson, Bitter Sisters Brewery began as a vision for a community-driven, family-friendly neighbourhood hangout. After closing their Calgary classic Atlantic Trap and Gill, they decided to open a brewery that would be more in line with their lives as parents and craft beer enthusiasts. The welcoming brewery balances light, approachable beers like Tarty Cousin Sue (cranberry-raspberry wheat), with hoppier options like Dank Frank NEPA and Second Chance IPA. Since opening early in 2020, like many others in the community, the Johnson sisters have had to overcome the challenges of pandemic, inflation and rising costs. They’re committed to staying connected with their neighbourhood, offering a donation libation program where a portion of each beer sold supports local charities. Chef Walter Malowany brings his SAIT Culinary Arts training and diverse experience to the brewery, crafting dishes that perfectly complement their signature beers. He creates a rotating menu that includes the Nashville Chicken Sandwich paired with Second Chance IPA, and the rich Cheese Fondue with Uncle Philsner Pilsner, which just so happens to be one of our favourite items on the menu. As the craft beer scene evolves, Bitter Sisters plans to grow, expanding its canned products into liquor stores while keeping the taproom and community at the heart of the business.
