Think Turkey launches first-ever Wishbone Awards
Food Banks Canada recently reported that nearly 20% of Canadians are living with food insecurity.
With the cost of food, rent, gas, and other essentials at a 30-year high, families across Canada are struggling. Food banks are being stretched to their limits — just as families need them more than ever.
Thankfully, there are amazing people across the country who step up during the holiday season by donating turkeys, cooking in a community kitchen, or volunteering at a local food bank. This year, these holiday heroes will be recognized through the first-ever Wishbone Awards – and nominations are now open.
Presented by Think Turkey, the Wishbone Awards recognize the unsung community heroes who embody the true holiday spirit and help wishes come true for Canadians in need.
Residents of Calgary are invited to nominate themselves or a deserving community hero by visiting ThinkTurkey from November 2-15 and share their story.
Eight holiday heroes will be recognized with a Wishbone Award, receiving a $2,500 grant to help fund their community efforts, and have their story shared nationally, inspiring others to give back.
The Wishbone Awards are part of The Wishbone Project, a charitable initiative launched in 2020 by Canada’s turkey farmers and processors to give back to communities and help those in need at the local, provincial and national levels through foods and funds. Since its launch, The Wishbone Project has raised over $240,000, empowering local non-profits, charities, and community heroes to combat food insecurity.
$20,000 in grants will be awarded to help community heroes fight food insecurity.
For more information or to nominate a local holiday hero, visit the Think Turkey website by November 15, 2023, by 11:59 p.m. EST.
