Maroulosalata, meaning “lettuce salad” in Greek, is a simple yet flavourful salad that embodies the spirit of Greek cuisine. It’s traditionally made with romaine lettuce, fresh dill, green onions and cucumber, however, ingredients can vary from region to region. The salad is tossed with a simple dressing of olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper, and feta cheese is added for some creaminess and tang.

This salad can be served chilled or at room temperature. It's a common appetizer or served as a side dish with grilled meat, seafood, or grilled vegetarian options. Pair with crusty bread and a side of olives warmed in olive oil.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • salt and pepper, pinch
  • 4 cups romaine lettuce, thinly sliced
  • 3 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 Persian cucumbers, sliced thin
  • 1/3 cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • 2 tbsp fresh dill, roughly chopped

Instructions

  • In a medium-sized bowl, add olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Whisk to combine. Add the remaining ingredients and toss until well dressed. Best served within a couple hours of making.
