It used to be that if you were going out and not drinking alcohol, there weren’t a lot of choices to be had. Soda, water, and juice were usually all that were available. Luckily the times have changed and mocktails have become as important as cocktails, giving everyone something fun to drink. Here are a few tasty spirit-free sips that you can enjoy around town. Newly opened Barbarella cuisine is inspired by the chic mid-century yacht culture of Southern Italy and the fresh flavours of the Pacific Northwest. They have three spirit-free cocktails on the menu; the Faux Negroni, a Faux Aperol Spritz and an Apricot and Tarragon Mule made with tarragon and apricot syrup, and ginger beer.

Sorella restaurant is a fresh take on Italian with the wisdom of generations of family tradations. Enjoy a mocktail or two with your Italian meal. The Sorellina is made with a non-alcoholic spirit, cherry, thyme and lime while their Fratellino is made with non-alcoholic gin, ginger beer, lemon and rosemary.

The Kadri Cooler at Kama is pretty and refreshing, and $1 from every drink sold is donated to Alpha House. The drink is made with mint, dried curacao, orange blossom, preserved lemon sherbet and blue spirulina. The Apricot and Cardamom Fizz has some interesting notes with apricot, toasted cardamom, lemon, mascarpone, labne, honey and soda – like cheesecake in a glass!

Try the Summer Berry Fizz made with ginger beer, yuzu juice, muddled blackberries, simple syrup, and blackberry. The Garden Gimlet is made with a gin substitute, cucumber water, lime juice, simple syrup, and celery bitters.

Shelter Cocktail Bar and Lounge is the place to be for an after work beverage or evening cocktail. The extensive cocktail, wine, and beer list, includes a simple selection of mocktails. Mocktail #1 consists of Star Anise and Grapefruit, and is made with star anise, grapefruit, falernum, lime and bubbles. Mocktail #2, the Beet and Vanilla, is made with juniper, lemon, vanilla, egg white, beet and rose water.
