Highwood Crossing Foods turns Canadian-grown grains and seeds into everyday pantry staples, from granola and oats to cold-pressed oils and baking mixes.
Nearly 30 years after launching, the High River company continues to champion organic agriculture and the farmers behind it.
Homegrown at Highwood Crossing
Tony and Penny Marshall started Highwood Crossing Foods in High River in 1996 as an expansion of their family’s organic farm. While the Marshalls have stepped back a bit from the day-to-day operations, they’re still very much connected to the local food scene and their land. (Tony’s great-grandfather began homesteading the land in 1899.)
They have a warehouse and production facility in High River, where you can come to shop, or preorder from Highwood’s website for pick-up. It’s open Monday to Thursday and they also ship via courier to clients across Canada.
The best-seller has always been the organic Sunflower Flax Granola, but their fresh, cold-pressed oils, steel-cut oats, unbleached flour, Power Grains Hot Cereal and muffin and pancake mixes are perennially popular, too. And don’t miss their newest product, Canadian-grown organic popping corn.
To keep up with demand, they source from small farming operations in Alberta and Saskatchewan, who have similar philosophies around agriculture and farming.
“When you buy from Highwood Crossing Foods, you support local organic farmers in Alberta and Saskatchewan,” Tony says. “You are also helping protect the environment by lowering our chemical and carbon footprint.”
