Calgary restaurants Burger it Forward to support those affected by food insecurity.
During the month of February, a handful of Calgary and area restaurants are participating in a Canada-wide campaign created to raise funds for Food Banks Canada. As food banks struggle to keep up with demand, Burger It Forward aims to “beef up” the protein portion of food bank offerings while supporting locally owned restaurants.
This national event is happening in eateries and restaurants across Canada including British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Atlantic Canada. Each participating restaurant has created a feature burger available through-out the month with Canada Beef donating the equivalent of one meal to Food Banks Canada, up to a maximum of 20,000 meals. Additionally, beef cattle farmer and rancher associations in each participating region have joined the campaign by making donations to regional food banks with either ground beef donations or a cash contribution.
Calgary eateries include Embarcadero Wine and Oyster Bar, Hawthorn Dining Room & Bar, iyycburg (pronounced iceberg), NOtaBLE Restaurant, Our Daily Brett Market & Café, Roy’s Korean Kitchen, Southland Yard Bar & Table, The Nash and Tonic Kitchen + Bar.
To encourage public participation in the campaign, Canadians are asked to share snaps of their experience enjoying Burger It Forward burgers on Instagram using the hashtag #BurgerItForward and tagging @lovecdnbeef and the participating restaurants they dine in for a chance to win a $500 Visa gift card, as well as additional gift cards donated by participating restaurants.
