Calgary father and son, Jeff and Joel Matthews, bring a taste of Asia to Calgary at IBU Restaurant & Bar. Together they craft dishes that marry global flavors with vibrant Asian influences reflecting their 30 years in Asia. IBU represents warmth, community, and shared experiences. Together with his father, Joel possesses a genuine passion for sharing the food they love with Calgarians.

IBU, pronounced ee-boo, means mother in Indonesian. With a team that operates as a unified family, they cultivate a warm, inviting atmosphere — one that feels like home and keeps guests returning time and time again. Joel and Jeff invite you to be part of  their family’s culinary journey. Established in a 75-year-old building on the corner of 14^th Street and 29^th Avenue S.W. (across the street from Our Daily Brett), IBU’s promise to craft dishes with vibrant Asian influences with new taste experiences has materialized.

IBU’s Chef’s Table presents an intimate dining experience, offering a seven-course culinary journey featuring locally sourced ingredients infused with global flavors. For $149, witness Executive Chef Joel craft and present select courses, while revealing the stories behind each innovative dish. Available in 2026, enjoy this dining experience with expertly paired wines ($79) designed to complement each bite — from reimagined classics to bold new creations.

IBU offers a chef-driven menu specializing in contemporary cuisine infused with Asian inspirations.

Food deliveries (Available in 2026): Skip, Door Dash, Uber Eats.
Offering catering services, including weddings up to 120 people, the restaurant can be booked out completely for private events.
