Pie Junkie creates limited edition slab pies

As we approach the whimsical convergence of International Pi Day and Albert Einstein’s birthday on Thursday, March 14th, here’s some fun news about how Calgary-based Pie Junkie will be bringing together the worlds of math and baking to celebrate this quirky holiday.

This year, Pie Junkie is elevating Pi Day festivities with a special offering: limited edition slab pies that pay homage to the mathematical wonder of Pi with fun math and Pi-themed designs. These super-sized pies serve 24 and are perfect for any gathering, be it in classrooms or office break rooms, adding a dash of joy and a taste of tradition to any Pi Day celebration. These special ‘Pi Day’ slab pies will be available by pre-order for one week only in Key Lime, Chocolate, Raspberry, and Raspberry Cheesecake flavours. Calgarians can also purchase a box of pre-made pastry numbers and Pi symbols to decorate their pies with at home. Pi Day-themed regular-sized pies and mini pies will also be available.

Before co-owner Nancy Goemans created Pie Junkie, she had never head of Pi Day and in fact, she recalls the first Pi Day she was in business was a Monday – a day that the shop was closed. Nevertheless, hungry math minds came knocking in search of ‘pi’ pie and Nancy quickly discovered the significance of this unusual holiday. Years later, Pi Day has become an important annual celebration for Pie Junkie and Nancy believes it’s never too early to start teaching fractions in your pie flavour of choice. After all, what better way to introduce a love of math to young minds than with a delicious pie?
