First Street Market is putting its menu to work this month.
A new campaign with Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids turns featured dishes from participating vendors into school lunches for Calgary students.
Local lunches for Calgary kids
First Street Market is partnering with Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids (BB4CK) to launch First Street Feeds Kids, a month-long community campaign helping provide nutritious school lunches to Calgary children facing food insecurity. From June 5–30, participating vendors throughout First Street Market will feature special menu items that directly support the initiative. For every campaign item purchased, $2 will be donated to BB4CK by the vendor and matched by First Street Market, turning every purchase into a $4 donation — enough to provide one lunch for a Calgary child.
With 2 in 5 children in Alberta living in food-insecure households, the need for accessible school lunches continues to grow. BB4CK currently provides nearly 8,000 lunches every school day to students across more than 280 Calgary schools, ensuring no child has to learn on an empty stomach.
“This campaign is about more than just food. It’s about community coming together to support Calgary kids in a meaningful and tangible way,” says Jesse Mann, co-owner and chef of Saffron Street. “As local businesses, we have the opportunity to make a direct impact right here in our city. Knowing that every feature item purchased helps provide a healthy lunch for a child makes this partnership incredibly rewarding.”
By purchasing a featured campaign item, guests are not only supporting Calgary’s local food vendors but also making an impact in the lives of children across the city. Participating dishes include the Pot Au Pho from Pure Vietnamese Street, Chicken Hakka Noodles from Saffron Street, and many more featured items throughout the market.
