For those of us of Eastern European heritage, beet horseradish (sometimes called Chrain, pronounced khrayn) is far from uncommon. It brings a colourful, flavour-packed and healthy kick to a variety of dishes, from roast beef sandwiches to smoked fish. But it’s messy and, well, extremely aromatic to make at home. Much simpler to buy a jar or two when you need it.
Tymek’s Cwikla Beets with Horseradish is made in Toronto by a Polish Canadian company that was started more than three decades ago. It is delicious served with roast beef or added to a sandwich made with leftovers the next day.
