A delightful, simple syrup infused with dried hibiscus petals becomes a delicious sweetener. A simple syrup is typically made with 1 part water to 1 part sugar. Once you start making simple syrup you can try different sugars like demerara sugar and infusing with a variety of herbs and spices.

Add this syrup to your favourite cocktail like the Hibiscus Gin Sour or stir a few spoonfuls into sparkling water, lemonade, ice tea or whiz into a salad dressing.

Hibiscus Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup dried hibiscus flours


  • Heat the water over medium heat bringing to a light simmer.
  • Stir in the sugar until dissolved.
  • Turn off the heat. Stir in the hibiscus flowers and steep for 15-20 minutes.
  • Strain and let syrup cool. Store in a container with a lid in the refrigerator.
