Kensington gets a dose of sweetness
Kakes & Kanvas are thrilled to announce the opening of their first brick-and-mortar location in Kensington. Kakes & Kanvas was founded by Kalia Gounden in 2017 and began by combining art and baking by offering cake decorating classes and painting classes paired with a sweet treat. Joined in 2020 by co-owner Luke Ball, who manages the day-to-day operations of the business, they expanded into weddings.
“We are so excited to open our first retail location. It’s been a dream of ours to be able to have a storefront to share our treats with the community,” says Kalia Gounden. “We love Kensington for its walkability and so many unique shops. It’s such a great community and we are thrilled to be a part of it.”
Kalia has always been passionate about baking and came by it naturally. Her grandpa owned and operated a bakery in Italy and when the family arrived in Canada they opened a bakery in Revelstoke, BC. As an artist and a baker, she has combined both passions and this is made clear in the products and experiences offered.
The Kensington location will have a selection of grab-and-go cakes, treat boxes, cupcakes with monthly rotating flavours, signature boozy cupcakes, coffee, tea and more. Kakes & Kanvas continues to create the most stunning wedding cakes and also hosts paint nights at various locations around Calgary.
