Who can resist a beautiful panino? Fresh bread, stuffed with beautiful meats, cheeses and condiments, then grilled to perfection. With the weather being as nice as it has been, these panini are perfect to pick up and enjoy for a picnic in the park or a stroll by the river. Here are a few of our favourites around town.
Italian Centre Shop
The Italian Centre’s hot or mild Spinelli’s signature panino has gained huge popularity. Made on freshly baked baguette, the sandwich is filled with slices of Genoa salami, mortadella, capicola, provolone cheese, roasted red pepper spread, olive oil and oregano. Make sure you add an Italian soda to go along with your stuffed sandwich.
Holy Grill
Head on over to one of four locations of Holy Grill for a large variety of panini to choose from.
The Californian Panino from Holy Grill is a veggie lovers dream come true. This panino is filled with cream cheese, provolone, banana peppers, red onions and pickled eggplant, along with red cabbage, grilled zucchini & yam, artichoke hearts, spinach and tomato. It is stuffed! You can even make this sandwich vegan by substituting the cheese with avocado. Pair this with their sweet potato chips on the side.
Euphoria Café
For a different spin, check out Euphoria Café and try their Korean BBQ Black Bean Panino. This sandwich is made with house-made black bean smash, mozzarella cheese, kimchi and BBQ sauce. The sandwich is made with locally baked sourdough and grilled to perfection. Their Blue Lagoon Sparkler pairs perfectly with the grilled sandwich.
Meat and Bread
With four locations in Vancouver, Meat and Bread’s Calgary location is in the historic Grain Exchange Building. Meat and Bread serves up their signature porchetta sandwich which is carved to order. The sandwich is made simply with salsa verde and crackling. Pair it with their feature salad or soup.
Peppino
Panini aren’t just for lunch or dinner. Peppino’s breakfast sandwich is a local fave! Their panino features a fresh spiced egg, capicola ham, cheese and tomato, and is served on a toasted ciabatta bun. Be sure to add their homemade hot sauce. Need a drink? Their sandwich comes with a cup of their house blend coffee.
