Lai Rai is carving out its own place in Calgary’s Vietnamese dining scene with regional dishes and street food-inspired plates that go well beyond the usual pho and bánh mì. Opened late last year by Hannah Chu alongside her father, chef Long Thai, the downtown restaurant blends family recipes, travel memories and a more playful approach to Vietnamese cooking. Not new to the Calgary food scene, the family is also known for popular eateries Pho Dau Bo, and Mot To Bánh Mì & Phở Bar. Open Tuesday through Saturday for lunch and dinner.
