Chai tea, often referred to simply as “chai,” is a popular and aromatic beverage originating in India.
The word chai itself translates to tea in Hindi, so when we say “chai tea,” we’re essentially saying “tea tea.” Traditional chai is a spiced tea that typically includes a mix of black tea, aromatic spices, sweeteners, and milk.
The Chai Bar
Balwinder Singh came to Canada in 2018 with very little money and a dream to open a chai business. After four years of saving, Singh and his business partner Jagdeep Singh put the plan in motion, and earlier this year they opened The Chai Bar in Saddle Ridge. If you’ve never had authentic chai tea, put this place on your bucket list. They offer 13 flavours of chai and a variety of street food too. The first time we visited we had the popular kadak chai with a mixed paratha flatbread. The second time it was so busy we ordered chai to go and plan on returning to work our way through the chai menu. The popularity of this place has prompted a second location in Westwinds with two more in the works in Calgary and one in Edmonton.
