Mother’s Day is a chance to celebrate moms and mother figures in your life. What better way than an afternoon of tea and little sandwiches, and scones of course. Here are a few places offering this afternoon delight, just in time for Mother’s Day.
The Confluence Historic Site and Parkland
The Confluence is offering Mother’s Day ‘High Tea’ on Sunday May 11th. There are two seatings, 11:30am to1pm and 12:45 pm to 2:15pm. Included are afternoon tea in the historic Replica Barracks, admission to The Confluence Cultural Centre, a 30-minute outdoor walking tour highlighting Calgarian mothers throughout history, an arts and crafts station to create two handmade gifts for mom, and a self-guided scavenger hunt through the exhibit space. $50 for adults, $34 for children 3-17 and infants under 3 are free.
Deane House
Enjoy savoury sandwiches made with side striped shrimp, butter chicken pot pie and Yorkshire pudding at The Deane House Afternoon Tea. Sweets and pastries include passion fruit curd macarons, blueberry marshmallows and carrot cake scones. Afternoon tea takes place Friday to Sunday from 1pm to 4pm. $65 per person, $35 for children 12 and under.
Hawthorn Dining Room
Afternoon tea has been served at the Fairmont Palliser since 1914. Freshly baked vanilla scones and LOT 35 teas are served alongside tea sandwiches, savoury tarts, sweet tarts and dessert. Tea is served every Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 3pm and is accompanied by live music. The Palliser Experience is $69 per person with a $42 menu for children under 12.
The Prairie Emporium
There are two seatings for a fun afternoon tea experience at The Prairie Emporium, 12pm and 2:30pm along with live piano. Tickets are $35 and include a choice of tea, sweet and savoury scones, devilled eggs and sweet treats. Additional beverages and kids’ items can be purchased a la carte.
Lougheed House
Treat your mom like royalty and take her where princes and princesses, dukes and duchesses have been entertained. Enjoy tea in the conservatory on May 10 and 11 from 10am to 3pm. $59.95 per person, $39.95 for children under 10.
The Coup
Enjoy a plant-based afternoon tea at The Coup. Afternoon tea will take place from 10am to 3pm and will include savoury and sweet delights, assorted sandwiches as well as tea and coffee.
Oxbow
You can celebrate mom at home with Oxbow’s Afternoon Tea To Go. The take away kit features a beautifully packed tray with sweets, savouries and a selection of Naked Leaf teas. It comes with easy reheat instructions so you can enjoy afternoon tea anywhere. This kit is available on May 10 for $68.25 per person. If you prefer to be spoiled at the restaurant, Oxbow offers afternoon tea on Sundays from 11am to 2pm for $65 per person. Their menu includes sweet and savoury scones, sandwiches, quiche, and even cornbread. Their sweets include profiteroles, cinnamon rolls and beignets. $65 per person.
