Mercato’s Market is rolling out new sandwiches that blend Italian tradition with fresh ideas.

House baked focaccia, bold flavours and classic fillings make this a welcome addition to the menu.

Mercato’s Market’s beloved market sandwiches, a Calgary favourite for decades, are getting a revamp — and Savour was invited, along with other lucky media folk, to be among the first to taste them. We especially loved the Meatball sandwich, rolled in pizza dough and the Mortadella sandwich with pesto and whipped ricotta.

These new and re-released market sandwiches will be available from Mercato’s Market in January 2026 — all pairing perfectly with their homemade soups and salads:

  • New Focaccia Sandwiches, featuring house made bread baked fresh daily.
  • The Mortadella Pesto & Whipped Ricotta with Hot Honey on Focaccia — a new standout.
  • Classics like Caprese, Manzo (Roast Beef), Tacchino (Turkey), Carne (Italian Cold Cuts) on ciabatta.
  • Plus their hot Piadina sandwiches — Chicken Parm, Eggplant Parm, and Meatball, baked in rolled pizza dough, Naples-style.
