A Quarter Century of Alberta Gastronomy
Rouge Restaurant, one of Calgary’s most storied dining destinations, proudly celebrates its 25th anniversary on April 1, marking a quarter century of culinary innovation, community connection, and terroir-driven cuisine.
Founded in 2001 in the iconic neighbourhood of Inglewood inside one of Calgary’s oldest residences – built in 1891 and once home to rancher and “Big Four” founding member A.E. Cross – Rouge has become a long-standing fixture in the city’s culinary landscape. The restaurant is known for its Modern Farmhouse cuisine and on-site culinary garden only steps from the kitchen, creating menus shaped by seasonality and regional sourcing.
Over the past 25 years, the restaurant has earned national and international recognition, including placement on the extended list of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.
Led by co-owners chef Paul Rogalski and chef Olivier Reynaud, Rouge is known for its on-site culinary garden and ingredient-driven approach rooted in Alberta agriculture.
“To us, Rouge has always been about expressing a sense of place,” says Reynaud. “Alberta’s landscapes and producers shape every menu.”
To mark the anniversary, Rouge will host a series of events throughout 2026, including:
- A 25-Year Culinary Timeline Menu (April – May) revisiting signature dishes
- Collaborative dinners with Canadian and international chefs
- Foraging experiences and garden dinners
- Special wine events featuring long-time partners
- Charitable dinners supporting local causes
Additional programming will include archival storytelling and reflections from past and present team members.
As Rouge enters its next chapter, its focus remains unchanged: championing Alberta producers, cooking with integrity, and continuing to evolve while maintaining its connection to place.
